Biography
Sum Yee Lee is a Chinese composer and pianist raised in Seattle Washington and Guangzhou, China. Her music is often inspired by nature, human experiences, art works, and is characterized by spontaneous changes in dynamics, color, character and texture. She has received recognition from the New York Youth Symphony First Music Commission 2024 and won the IAWM 2024 Annual Concert Call for Scores. Her music has been featured in SEAMUS National Conference, Electronic Music Midwest (EMM), Dream American Emerging Composers Concert, She Scores Concert Series, and MOXsonic.
She is currently pursuing a PhD degree in composition at UC Santa Barbara. She holds a master’s degree in composition at Bowling Green State University, and earned her piano and composition degree from Western Washington University and a biology degree from the University of Washington.
Sum Yee is a co-founder of SonAlt Arts Organization, whose mission is to empower emerging artists and promote cultural exchange with Latin America by providing interdisciplinary collaborations between music and other creative arts.
